What Are Continents?

A continent is a large area of land. There are seven continents on Earth, and each one has its own land, weather, animals, and people.

The Seven Continents:

  1. Asia
    • The largest continent.
    • Home to many countries like China, India, and Japan.
    • Famous for the Himalayas and Mount Everest.
  2. Africa
    • Has hot deserts like the Sahara and wild animals like lions and elephants.
    • The Nile River, the longest in the world, flows here.
  3. North America
    • Includes countries like USA, Canada, and Mexico.
    • Home to the Grand Canyon and Niagara Falls.
  4. South America
    • Famous for the Amazon Rainforest and Andes Mountains.

    • Known for beautiful castles, history, and cities like London, Paris, and Rome.
    • Contains many small countries close together.

What Are Oceans?

An ocean is a huge body of saltwater that covers most of the Earth’s surface. There are five oceans.

The Five Oceans:

  5. Southern Ocean
    • Surrounds Antarctica.
    • Icy and very windy!

Fun Fact!

The Pacific Ocean is so big, you could fit all the continents inside it!

Why Are Continents and Oceans Important?
